Rien Poortvliet’s famous gnomes have a Christmas air to them even in the middle of August. I wrote this book backwards—at least for me. Usually, my words come first and then the art, but not this time. I was able to select my favorite gnomes from a vast assortment of Rien’s artworks. Then I wrote the book to go along with the pictures. I got some help from some friends, too. My sister, Ann, helped me with the recipe for One-Ders, a traditional holiday treat. And my musician friend Bob Lamont helped me with the tunes for three gnome songs.
